Mike is the first one to admit that he was not a natural at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Through hard work and perseverance, he was able to earn his black belt under Cicero Costa black belt Fernando Zulick. Mike has over 10 years of learning, teaching and competing under his belt, yet he knew early on that teaching was his passion.
Mike has a very technical approach to BJJ which he shares with his students each class. He encourages everyone by showing them that time and effort on the mats helps us all get better. Mike is a leader by example, and one that you can count on to improve your game.

Kevin's journey into BJJ began in 2010, and he was awarded his Black belt in 2023. Kevin is an accomplished competitor, and is always pushing his training partners to their limit.
Hard work is the name of the game with Kevin, and he isn't scared of getting sweaty. While he is teaching, he expects 100% from his students, because he's always giving that much himself. If improving your fitness is a major goal, make sure you never miss one of his classes.
A recent Kinesiology graduate who is now pursuing a career as a physiotherapist, Tony spends his time on and off the mats learning everything he can about human movement.
Tony began his journey in BJJ in 2011 and was recently awarded his black belt from Fernando Zulick. Tony continues to compete regularly, striving to achieve his potential every day.
After his matches, Tony can be found cornering our members, ensuring they have a friendly face and high level coaching while they are competing. At the club, he teaches his unique mix of speed and pressure passing, along with his deadly choke arsenal, challenging students to take their training to the next level. No matter what your style is, Tony will have something to help you improve your game.
Centrally located in downtown Kitchener, Guardhouse BJJ offers a safe, fun, and supportive environment for everyone. The spacious training space features premium-quality Zebra mats on top of a spring subfloor, allowing you to train BJJ, takedowns, and judo throws in complete comfort. There are multiple restrooms and showers on site. Hygiene is of the utmost importance in our gym - the mats are cleaned with industrial-strength disinfectant daily, and flip flops are required to be worn at all times throughout the gym when off of the mats.

Professor Fernando Zulick is a certified black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) with over 18 years of BJJ instruction, training and coaching experience. A native of Brazil, the home of real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Fernando’s BJJ roots and lineage extend deep, having studied with BJJ Master Helio Gracie – Flavio Behring – Sylvio Behring.
